So much science in this little tube!

Description

Safely demonstrate open and closed series circuits without any danger of electric shocks! When the tube is "turned on", the red, green, and blue lights light up and it makes an eerie fluttering tone. Activating the tube is the fun part - just touch the metal ends with both hands. Your body forms the conducting material that bridges the gap between the two metal strips and closes the circuit! 7" x 1.5".

Looking on the webpage I was interested in the energy tube. I purchased one. I've had a lot of fun with it. I'm 71 yrs old. People find it interesting. As a young kid science caught my attention even at the of 71yrs.

Energy Tube

The "Energy Tube" is great for helping 4th graders better understand energy. My entire class, connected, hand by hand, can "light up" the "Energy Tube." Great for teaching open/closed circuits, energy, and more.

Love these things

I used these with 8th graders. We joined hands in a circle and then had this item at the ends. Kids were shocked (not physically) at what happened. We also used it to explain the pathways that electricity takes. Great tool for learning.

Open and closed circuit demonstrator

This is one of my favorite "props" for demonstrating circuits. Students can really figure out a lot on their own by just playing with the device. When they hold hands with one or more other students and they put this in the chain, they get lights and sounds and an immediate reaction that validates when they have a complete circuit and when they don't. We try to put other objects in the circuit (a wooden ruler -- no reaction; a copper wire -- lights and sound!) I love products like this that allow students to figure things out on their own!

Electric Field Demo

If you hold one end of the tube and bring it near a Van de Graaff generator, the red, green, and blue lights come on in order as you walk closer to the generator (field gets stronger). But don't touch the generator. This becomes a stimulating demonstration for advanced students beginning to understand quantum physics. If the ends are touched lightly, the red lights....better contact causes the green and blue to light subsequently. They then figure out that blue is highest frequency and requires more energy and higher voltage. There's a lot in this lesson!

Cool thing, annoying noise!

I missed the part about the noise in the item description. It's really annoying! Maybe cool for a classroom, but for a home toy it's horrible. Too bad, because the light up part was fun.

I was a little disappointed in the quality of the product. The 2 magnetic ends are just a couple of piecec of magnetic tape that were torn when I received it. Seems like there could have been a more durable option for the conductive ends.

Well worth the price

Sturdy, with bright lights and loud buzzer. I was afraid it would not react quickly when circuit was closed but it is very sensitive. Good buy.
