These magnetic balls are interesting and colorful. A great addition to magnets unit or color and light! My 4-5 yr. olds love them.

A little weak

I found these magnets to be too weak to build many things. They fall over. I was looking for something more like Nano magnets that have very strong attraction.

Magnetic Marbles
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Apr 28, 2013
On Thursday, April 18, I received my order. When I opened the packs, I noticed one package had only 18 marbles instead of 20 (as stated in the packaging.) I contacted Educational Innovations and the person said that they would ship the additional marbles promptly. As of April 28, I still do not have the marbles and am waiting for the marbles to conduct a "paint with magnetic marbles" lab with my students.

Owner Response: Sara, our deepest apologies. Somehow there was a miscommunication on our end. We are sending the extra marbles today.

I wanted this product for the purpose of creating shapes, figures, pictures, etc. The magnets are weak and the pole effect is so strong that they don't stick together well. Not satisfied. Also, I thought they would be glass--they are plastic.

These magnets are great. However, they are easy to lose, so I always have my students explore with them on a cafetria tray.

NGSS

This product will support your students' understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)*, as shown in the table below.

Elementary Middle School High School

K-PS2-1

Students can use the Magnetic Marbles to plan and conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.

2-PS1-2

Students can use the Magnetic Marbles to investigate and analyze data obtained from testing different materials to determine which materials have properties that are best suited for an intended purpose.

3-PS2-4

Students can use the Magnetic Marbles define a simple design problem that can be solved by applying scientific ideas about magnets.

MS-PS2-3

Students can use the Magnetic Marbles to ask questions about data to determine the factors that affect the strength of magnetic forces.

MS-PS2-5

Students can use the Magnetic Marbles to conduct an investigation and evaluate the experimental design to provide evidence that fields exist between objects exerting forces on each other even though the objects are not in contact.

DCI-MS/PS3.C: Relationship Between Energy and Forces.

When two objects interact, each one exerts a force on the other that can cause energy to be transferred to or from the object.

HS-PS3-5

The Magnetic Marbles can be used to develop and model how two objects interacting through magnetic fields, illustrates the forces between objects and the changes in energy of the objects due to the interaction.

HS-PS3-3

Students can use the Magnetic Marbles in the design of a device that works with given constraints to convert one form of energy into another form of energy.

Suggested Science Idea(s)

K-PS2-1

Students can use the Magnetic Marbles and other types of magnets to plan and conduct an investigation on the strength of the pushes and pull and exert on objects. Especially great for young learners is the Magnet Wand with these marbles.

DCI/PS1.A

Each pure substance has characteristic physical and chemical properties that can be used to identify it.

2-PS1-2

Matter can be described and classified by its observable properties. Students can use the wand to test for materials that are attracted to a magnet.

MS-PS2-5

The Magnetic Marbles is a wonderful tool to show the interaction of magnets.

HS-PS3-3

Students can use the Magnetic Marbles in the design of a device such as a Rube Goldberg machine.

DCI/HS-PS2.B

Investigations using the Magnetic Marbles will demonstrate the attraction and repulsion between electric charges at the atomic scale explain the structure, properties, and transformations of matter, as well as the contact forces between material objects.

S&E

Students can use the Magnetic Marbles to Develop a model to describe a phenomenon.
